What I offer
My main goal as a mentor is to help students enjoy scientific work and find their research meaningful. My background is in machine learning for medicine, and I'm happy to guide students through experimental design, model development, and the full arc of a research project. Diploma theses are possible, and while my work does not directly involve patient contact, I am happy to connect students with clinical researchers at my department.
What I expect from the students
I expect students to communicate openly and proactively. Keeping to agreed dates is equally important.
Time constraints for meetings
I would like to meet for 90 minutes monthly with each mentee. Late mornings work great for me for meetings, or after work. We can go grab a coffee, or meet at my office.
What else I would like to say
My work sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence and clinical medicine, with a focus on building systems that can be deployed and trusted in real healthcare settings. Beyond the technical side, I am deeply interested in the gap between research and practice, i.e. why so many promising methods never make it to the bedside, and how we can design research that bridges that distance from the start. At MedUni Wien, I collaborate closely with clinicians, which means students get exposure to both the algorithmic and the human side of medical AI.
