What I offer

As a postdoctoral researcherat the Centre for Medical Physics and Biomedical Research, I develop miniaturised optical coherence tomography devices. Having also completed my PhD at the Medical University of Vienna, I have first-hand experience of the challenges and rewards of academic research. I enjoy supporting PhD students as they navigate the ups and downs of their research journey, from maintaining motivation and achieving a healthy work–life balance to dealing with setbacks, self-doubt, and evolving perspectives.

As a mentor, I see myself primarily as a strategic discussion partner who can offer an independent, outside perspective. Whether you want support in planning your PhD, discuss grant writing, presentations, research funding, or broader career-related questions, my goal is to encourage reflection, build confidence, and help you shape your own scientific path. I also believe in the value of fostering connections and peer mentoring, as a strong support network is an essential part of a successful and fulfilling PhD experience.

What I expect from the students

I value working with curious, motivated and open-minded students who are willing to engage with the group. Respectful and open communication, with a touch of humor and active collaboration are important to me.

Time constraints for meetings

Six meetings (lasting 1–2 hours) are planned over the course of one academic year. During the first in-person meeting at the start of the semester, we will discuss the initial goals and schedule the remaining sessions.

Depending on group interests, we can also plan lab visits and informal outings alongside discussion rounds.

What else I would like to say

Having benefited greatly from the PhD mentoring programme myself, I now hope to pass on my knowledge, tips and tricks to help you not only finish your PhD, but also make the most of the experience. I work exclusively in research and I am also involved in teaching. My goal for the mentoring programme is to support and motivate you on your personal journeys.
