Register as PhD Mentee
PhD Mentoring is open to all students enrolled in the PhD program (UN094) or Doctoral program (UN790) at the Medical University of Vienna. This fully voluntary program offers support beyond the regular curriculum and is designed to complement your academic journey.
In small groups of up to five students, experienced mentors facilitate regular meetings to help you navigate everyday challenges, gain new perspectives and break out of your academic bubble. The program is available to students at all stages of their doctoral studies, encouraging valuable peer exchange and an interdisciplinary dialogue.
Step 1 – Choose a mentor
As mentoring is a highly personal process, it is important that you choose a mentor who you feel comfortable with. To get to know your potential mentor prior to registration, you have the possibility to search for suitable mentors and to view their online profiles. As each mentoring group is limited to a maximum of 5 participants, please also consider alternative mentors as well.
Step 2 – Register via MedCampus
Log in to MedCampus to access your home view.
- Click on “Courses” in the home view.
- Use the search or filter function to find the course by entering “PhD Mentoring” or “667.005”.
- Click on “Go to course registration details”.
- Select the group of your chosen mentor and complete the registration.
Once successfully registered, the course will appear immediately under “My Courses.” Please verify your registration. There are no waiting lists. If your preferred mentor’s group is full, please select a different group. You may only register for one group. If you wish to switch groups, you must first unregister before signing up for a new one.
Step 3 – Your mentor will contact you
After successful registration, your mentor will reach out to you via email to schedule an initial in-person meeting. During this first session, you’ll introduce yourself to the group, establish shared ground rules, and identify potential topics of interest for future meetings.
The PhD Mentoring process
The mentoring program runs over the course of a full academic year (two semesters). Each semester includes at least three meetings, which may take the form of group discussions, excursions, participation in relevant events or shadowing your mentor in their professional environment.
The format and content of the meetings are intentionally flexible and will be shaped by the group’s interests and needs. Additional sessions can also be arranged in coordination with your mentor.
At the end of the two semesters, participants will be invited to provide feedback to help continuously improve the program.
