PhD Mentoring Program

Join the PhD Mentoring Program - Unlock new perspectives

Are you pursuing a PhD or doctorate in medicine or a related field and looking for support beyond the regular curriculum? The PhD Mentoring Program is here to accompany you on your academic journey by connecting you with experienced researchers from a wide range of disciplines.

In small, focused groups, you’ll engage in meaningful dialogues with accomplished mentors and fellow doctoral candidates. These exchanges open up fresh perspectives on topics often overlooked in formal training - from career planning and research strategy to personal growth and development.

At its core, the program is about empowerment through guidance. Stepping beyond the academic routine, you’ll gain valuable insights that encourage reflection and help shape your scientific and professional path. Learning from peers can be just as enriching as drawing from the depth of mentor experience.

Designed with flexibility in mind, the program welcomes PhD and doctoral students at all stages. It adapts to your individual needs, offering a tailored and responsive mentoring experience.

Ultimately, your experience is what you make of it. The more actively you engage, the more you'll benefit. A proactive, open-minded attitude are key to making the most of this opportunity.

Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Martin Schmoll

Since 2018, when I finished my doctoral studies, I learned a lot about science, the academic structures and potential career paths to move forward – along with many “hidden rules” of which I wished to know earlier. Doing a PhD is fundamentally different from undergraduate or traditional degree programs. With only a loose timeline and no fixed structure, research requires a high degree of independence, flexibility, and perseverance. Complex, often interdisciplinary challenges, combined with publication pressure and a heavy workload, demand a lot from doctoral researchers. At the same time, opportunities for scientific and personal exchange with peers or experienced colleagues like postdocs, are often limited. In response to these challenges, we set out to create a mentoring program that offers what many doctoral candidates need most: orientation, guidance, and a strong network. Our goal is to support early-career researchers in gaining clarity and confidence as they shape their academic and professional paths. That’s why I’m truly excited to invite you to join the PhD Mentoring Program - because reaching new heights is just easier with a little help.”
