This full-day training course provides doctors and scientists at MedUni Vienna with practical skills for supporting students in the PhD Mentoring Programme. Focus: Building trust and cooperation in groups, constructive feedback, reflecting on one's own attitude as a mentor and self-development-oriented conversations. Based on proven models, you will develop a concrete roadmap for your mentoring year and are prepared for any critical situation.
Learning Objectives
- After the seminar, participants will be able to identify the phases of group development according to the Integrated Model of Group Development and use targeted interventions to promote trust and collaboration in their mentee group.
- Participants can formulate constructive feedback according to the SBI model and apply it in a way that is appropriate to the situation and development.
- The participants reflect on their own attitude as mentors and consciously shape it and its influence on the development of their mentees (Pygmalion effect).
- Participants can use the WOOP model (Wish-Outcome-Obstacle Plan) to accompany mentees in a structured way in setting and achieving their goals.
- The participants develop a concrete annual plan for their mentoring, which includes initial meetings, methods and topics for the professional support of their mentees.
Teaching Methods
- Keynote speeches and short lectures on scientifically validated models
- Experience-oriented exercises and role plays
- Small group work and peer coaching
- Reflection on one's own experiences and attitudes
- Discussions and collegial exchange of experiences
- Practical application: Creation of an individual mentoring annual plan
- Storytelling and case group discussions
Target Group
Doctors and scientists from the Medical University of Vienna, who accompany PhD students in everyday clinical and scientific life as PhD mentors. The participants come from different disciplines and hierarchical levels (from assistant doctors to professors).
Previous Knowledge
"PhD Mentoring: Basic Seminar" must be attended first.
