What I offer

I offer mentorship to PhD students navigating the exciting and demanding phase of early academic life, particularly those interested in an international research career. My goal is to help students set realistic goals, and to strengthen essential skills in writing, publishing, and presenting their work. I also provide a space for open, honest conversations about career choices, work-life balance, and the personal challenges that can arise during this stage of academic life.

What I expect from the students

I enjoy working with students who are motivated, respectful, and genuinely curious about hereditary cancer. I value open communication and see feedback as something we both learn from, and I appreciate when students are engaged in that process. In our group, I try to create a space that’s collaborative, respectful, and inclusive—where questions are welcome and ideas can grow. I value curiosity, critical thinking, and maintaining a healthy balance between academic drive and personal well-being.

Time constraints for meetings

Six in-person meetings per academic year, each about two hours. Additional meetings can be arranged as needed. Meetings take place on the AKH or Altes AKH campus grounds and are scheduled by arrangement.

What else I would like to say

To me, a PhD is more than just completing a project. It is a time of growth that depends on genuine curiosity, motivation and hard work. When those don't align with expectations and outcomes, it can be frustrating, and that's where guidance and support help keep things on track.

My research focuses on hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, with an emphasis on precision medicine and prevention. I lead and contribute to international initiatives such as CIMBA, BCAC, ENIGMA, IBCCS, ATHENA, and PREDICTOME. Mentoring is a central part of my work, and I aim to support students in building their confidence, asking thoughtful questions, and finding a path in academia that is both productive and personally meaningful.
