What I offer
My academic background as a histologist and my professional experience (at Massey University, New Zealand; Ferdowsi University, Iran; the Medical University of Graz; and the Medical University of Vienna) have given me a deep understanding of anatomy and histology, both in research and practical applications. I am passionate about sharing this knowledge with young medical students and PhD researchers.
As a mentor, my goal is to foster a supportive and open environment where students feel encouraged to explore their interests and develop their skills. I am committed to helping them define and pursue their career goals, offering guidance on research opportunities, and discussing strategies for maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
In addition, as a mother, I can bring a perspective on balancing family responsibilities with professional ambitions. I understand the challenges PhD students may face in this area and strive to offer meaningful support.
In summary, I offer the following:
- Guidance on career planning in medical and basic science research
- Insights into day-to-day academic life at the Center for Anatomy and Cell Biology (research, teaching, publishing)
- Information on research stays abroad
- Supervision of diploma and doctoral theses on a wide range of histological and anatomical topics using various methods
- Open for collaboration with other working groups
I offer also the topic "Studying with a child".
What I expect from the students
expect from the students and group:
- Interest and Initiative:
Students are expected to demonstrate curiosity and a genuine interest in basic science research. They should also take initiative in choosing topics and shaping the structure of our meetings.
- Interactivity and Respect:
An interactive and respectful environment is essential for productive collaboration.
- Honesty and Openness:
Students should communicate honestly and openly about their goals and where they need support.
- Regular Participation:
Students are expected to attend sessions that align with their interests regularly.
- Shared Focus Areas:
Topics and areas of focus will be developed collaboratively, based on the students’ interests.
What I want to prevent:
Avoid one-sided conversations, unclear expectations, and unprofessional boundaries.
Ensure meetings are respectful, goal-oriented, and foster mutual growth and accountability.
I value:
open communication, mutual respect, trust, and a supportive environment that encourages growth and reflection.
Time constraints for meetings
- Meetings take place once a month without fixed time slots. They usually last between 1 to 2 hours, depending on the agenda.
- Dates, times, and meeting locations are arranged jointly.
What else I would like to say
I would like to share my passion for research and pursuing a career at the Medical University of Vienna.
From experience, I know how important external support can be, especially in the early stages—which is why I actively support the mentoring program. I missed such guidance during my own diploma and PhD studies, and I now want to offer it to others.
Within a trusting mentoring relationship, I provide insights into career paths in basic science.
Regular meetings offer support for individual career planning and skill development. Topics such as research stays abroad, writing grants and publishing papers, work-life balance, and conflict management will be discussed based on the group’s interests.
As a mother, I will also address topics like balancing family and career, parental leave, and equal partnerships in detail.
