Register as PhD Mentor

If you are interested in becoming a PhD Mentor, please express your interest by contacting medizindidaktik@meduniwien.ac.at. Please note that new mentors must meet specific eligibility criteria, which will be reviewed before assigning a mentoring group. The PhD Mentoring Program starts annually at the beginning of the winter semester in October.

Requirements

To ensure the quality of the PhD mentoring program, it is essential for the mentors to be familiar with the theoretical foundations of the mentoring process and the organizational structures at the Medical University of Vienna. The following requirements must be met to qualify as a PhD mentor:

The seminars “Senior-Mentoring: Basis” and “Senior-Mentoring: Aufbau” are considered equivalent to the PhD Mentoring seminars. Mentors who have already completed the Senior-Mentoring seminars are not required to repeat the PhD Mentoring seminars.

As a PhD mentor, your commitment in supporting early-career researchers plays a vital role in shaping the next generation of scientists. While your primary motivation may come from your mentees' progress and success, mentoring also offers valuable benefits for your own professional development:

  • Expand your academic and professional network
  • Strengthen your advisory and leadership competencies
  • Engage in meaningful exchange and collaboration with motivated young researchers
  • Your mentoring is credited as a teaching assignment**
    • 5 mentees: 1 SWS per semester
    • 3-4 mentees: 0.5 SWS per semester

** The minimum group-size of 3 mentees is required to obtain teaching credits
